the thing about holiday parties…

I think its cool how this time of year people have big parties. They invite as many people as they can, get the best food and drink and many go out of their way to have live music at their parties. And so I get invited to perform at some of these gatherings.

I know some of these parties disguise themselves as bothersome obligations, often lined with some odd and awkward situations or other landmines. The thing is though, I get to be part of a transformation that occurs when people who like each other gather to celebrate, listen to music, eat and drink.

Just one more way piece if evidence that it’s the simplest and smallest of things that are the most important in life. We let too much time goes by again before we make ourselves take the time to appreciate being with each other just for the sake of enjoying each other’s company.

I hope I was smart enough to let you know how great it is to know you, how honored I am to sing for you, to see you smile when I play that song, or to see you nod, sway just a little, tap your hand to the rhythm, lip sync the words to my music, … I hope I’ve let you know this is a pleasure, a gift, your presence when I perform. Thanks.

Have a great holiday season and may it last a little longer this year than the last.
